Three Step Nutritional Therapy Process
1.
EDUCATION
Eating healthy can be confusing. You may be reading an article on the Internet that talks about one food being good for you, and on another site it says it is bad. We have so many choices when we go to the grocery store that it can be overwhelming. Good fats, bad fats, organic, free-range, grass-fed- what do I eat?
2.
Rejuvenation, Food Sensitivities, and Personalized Diets
Your personalized plan for jump-starting your improved diet includes beginning with a detoxification, also known as a cleanse. Detoxification rejuvenates by cleansing the digestive system and liver. Elson Haas, MD, who has used detoxification widely in his practice, states, “cleansing and detoxification is virtually one of the most powerful healing (real healing of ailments and not just suppression of symptoms) therapies I have seen.”
Following detoxification, a food reintroduction plan should be followed to see if there are food sensitivities. This occurs by slowly reintroducing certain common problem foods, such as wheat and dairy, and keeping a log of how you feel. This is a critical aspect of nutritional counseling. By eliminating or limiting foods that create digestive issues, you can help your body work more efficiently. NAET may also be recommended to help with food sensitivities.
From here, a healthy and wholesome personalized diet can be recommended. Good nutrition provides the body’s necessary carbohydrates, proteins, and fats and is key to overall health. What exactly is good nutrition? We are all individuals and our nutritional plan should not be any different. There is not one plan that works for everyone.
3.
Practicing Mindfulness
Yoga and meditation can help you quiet your mind and become more present. Mindfulness is about staying in the present moment and focusing on the task at hand. Practicing mindfulness when eating can help us make better choices and know when we are full. According to The Center for Mindful Eating, “evidence is building that validates the benefits of mindful eating for the treatment of obesity as well as binge eating disorders.”
